Below is an excerpt from a narrative I wrote for First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg Holy Week event, Experience the Storya unique, exciting, and immersive multimedia experience of GOD’s interaction with the world.

We all fall short.

We are all broken.

And there is only one way to get unbroken.

Isaiah 25:6-8 (NLT)

In Jerusalem,  the Lord  of Heaven’s Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat. There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign Lord  will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The Lord  has spoken!

When God gave humans the gift of choice, He knew there would be a chance they would choose not to have a relationship with Him. God knew that the connection between He and His people could be broken. He knew there was a chance that Sin could infect the Earth.

He knew, also, that there would be people who would call out to Him; who would desire a relationship with Him despite the sin in their life. He knew that in their hearts, those people desperately wanted a way to spend eternity with Him.

But, creation would not have the strength to defeat Sin. No amount of laws, or rules, or sacrifices could undo the damage humans had done. God Himself would have to pay the price for man’s choice.

We are broken and we deserve death; the complete separation from our Creator. Yet, God still offers us eternal life.

A gift.

John 1:1-4 (ESV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

God gave us His Word. Like water, His word can flow through us, and fill the void in our hearts. The Word can live within us. His Word is His promise. His promise is of a new life; an eternal life without decay, sickness, separation, pride, addiction, or death.

A life free from sin.

His Word is His Promise is the Way is Life is Jesus!

Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God offers us this gift. It was a gift that required a unquantifiable  payment of pain, suffering, and sacrifice. The payment was made, in full, by the very God whom we rejected.

It isn’t a gift we can buy, or a gift we can earn. There are no strings attached. It is only a gift that we can choose to accept or reject. Though God made the payment for all humans, He knows that there are those who will always reject Him.

John 1:12-14 (ESV)

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Sin was born out of a human choice, and dies by a divine choice.

Humans chose to separate themselves from their creator, Jesus offers a way home.

Humans chose pride, and Jesus brings immeasurable joy.

Humans chose the bondage of addiction, and Jesus brings freedom from sin’s enslavement.

Humans brought death into this world, and Jesus promises everlasting life.

From out of the whole universe, God chose a little planet in a seemingly insignificant solar system, on the edge of a galaxy among a billion other galaxies. And on that little blue dot, he poured out His love.

He spoke, and we were.

And because of his universe sized love for us, we can choose to spend eternity with Him in complete and total joy.
